Sports Live Here

The fondest memories of my childhood stem from long weekend travels with my parents, spent with hours in the car reading, writing, coloring, and letting my imagination run wild! As an adult, I still enjoy traveling and although, I fly rather than drive, I still take time to explore each city I visit and get to know a little about its sports environment.
Below are a few of my favorite cities to travel to and enjoy sporting events in:
·        Houston, TX
·        Chicago, IL
·        Kansas City, MO
·        Atlanta, GA
·        Chapel Hill, NC
I recommend you all visit these cities and take a moment to enjoy a sporting event! Whether it is a basketball, football, or baseball game, you are sure to enjoy yourself! After all…Sports Live Here!

Sports Style

As this year’s collegiate football season comes to an end, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on this season’s best-dressed college football teams. Now yes, it is important to play well, but hey what’s wrong with looking good while you do it?
Below are my top 5 best-dressed NCAA football teams:
  • Oregon
  • Georgia
  • University of Kansas
  • Ole Miss
  • Auburn University

Glory Road

This past weekend was filled with tons of great college football and even though there were a few upsets (sorry South Carolina fans) there were also a few great underdog success stories! One in particular more great than all the rest!
One word, two syllables! AUBURN! Now I have to admit, prior to this year’s stellar season and NFL-like performance by Cam Newton when someone said “War Eagle” let’s just say football isn’t the first thing that came to mind. This team has truly had a great season and a Glory Road like no other; despite the scandal surrounding Cam Newton and the tough competition they faced in the SEC Conference, this team has earned every bit of praise and has defined the meaning of rising to the top!
Congratulations to Cam Newton and Auburn University!!

GoGirlGo!

As a young sport professional, it is imperative you network, maintain relationships with other professionals in your field, and stay current on recent changes in your field. As a woman in this business, it is even more important to do the aforementioned.
With this being said, I will take an in-depth look at the Women’s Sports Foundation. Every girl looking to break into the business should become familiar with the work they do, in order to stay ahead of the game!
The Women’s Sports Foundation was founded in 1974 by Billie Jean King and is a national charitable educational organization aimed at enhancing the lives of girls and women through physical activity. They are the only national organization promoting all sports and physical activities for women of all ages and skill levels. They are also acknowledged by the media as the expert resource on all women’s sports issues.
One Women’s Sports Foundation initiative that is particularly beneficial is the GoGirlGo! program they run. GoGirlGo! is the organizations primary focus and aims to get one million inactive girls to participate in regular physical activity and keep another one million currently active girls ages 8-18 from dropping out of physical activity.
The five key components of GoGirlGo! include:
  • Groundbreaking research
  • Educational and awareness initiative
  • Community Activation
  • Grant Program
  • GoGirlWorld.org

Tis The Season!

Tis’ the Season…
In honor of this week’s consumer-coined “Black Friday”, I figured I would take a break from the sports talk and share a few of my favorite beauty and fashion products. I am the definition of a loyal consumer. Once I find a product I like, I stick with it for years to come! I have a few, which I will list below, that I highly recommend!
These products are affordable, easy to find and produce great results!
Christian Dior Blackout Mascara: $24.00, sold at Sephora; can you say VA-VA-VOOM?!?! This mascara adds length to dull, lifeless lashes and helps enhance your eyes. It doesn’t clump and lasts for hours, I love it!
Mario Badescu Drying Mask: $18.00, sold at Ulta; Want to get spa quality treatment at home? Look no further! This mask will leave your face smooth, moisturized and feeling like you just got a $100 facial from a swanky spa
MAC “C-Thru” Lip Glass: $14.50, sold at MAC counters nationwide; this is the go-to lip gloss for me! No matter what eye shadow or fingernail polish I’m wearing, this nude lip gloss enhances my natural lips all while adding shine and texture at the same time!
Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding: $38.00, found at Target; this is the best curl cream on the market! Its lightweight formula adds volume, shine, and elasticity to curly, hard to manage hair! You only need a quarter-sized amount to take hair from dull to full and voluminous.
Ulta’s “Simply Fresh” body spray and lotion: $8.00 for lotion, sold at Ulta (buy one get one free); I have never in my life smelt anything so fresh, crisp, and clean. I LOVE this scent! Trust me, the price (although great) does not compare to how great Simply Fresh body spray and lotion smells.

Get Your Own Damn Beer, Im Watching The Game!

The title says it all. A few years ago, as I was strolling down the aisles of Barnes and Noble, this book particularly stuck out to me! It is definitely on my list of books to read before the year is over!
From the reviews I have read online, Holly Robinson Peete’s book “Get your Own Damn Beer, I’m Watching the Game” breaks down the game of football like no other! I hear her top 10 lists range from the greatest players in the game, to the best butts in the NFL….sounds interesting to me! Holly also breaks down the history of the game, its origins and provides a complete glossary of terms.
The most appealing feature of this book are the stories she shares about her life as an NFL wife. I am really looking forward to reading “Get your Own Damn Beer, I’m Watching the Game” over Christmas break!

I Love Monday Night Football!

Okay so, I don’t love Monday Night Football; However, I have grown accustomed to it. Ladies, the truth is that if you want to spend any sort of time with any man on a Monday, you have got to get interested in the game! It’s not always easy, I mean id rather be watching Lifetime or the Food Network but I have found the fun in Monday Night Football!
The commercials are particularly entertaining! My favorite is the ESPN College Gameday commercial, where Lee Corso uses a typewriter to spread his word, rather than social media outlets…”Run, go tell the people this”, what a tag line!
In addition to the commercials, the food is a great part of Monday Night Football! Nachos, chicken wings, pop (soda for you east coast people) and ice cream sundaes!!! Mmmm good!
So let’s see, we have:
1)     Quality time with the man in your life
2)     Great commercials,
3)     Amazing food and drinks
What am I leaving out?
…Oh the commentators!
How could I forget about Jon Gruden?! Gruden is hands down, my favorite commentator! The excitement and sheer joy he brings to NFL commentating would prompt any uninterested girl to see what the buzz surrounding Monday Night Football is about!

Keep the Pink!

When asked how my love for sports first came about, I was bit taken aback. How did I, the "my lip gloss is poppin", 5 inch heel wearing, purse toting, "oh shoot! I broke a nail", ultimate girly girl wind up working for ESPN?
It’s simple.
Sports is universal and my love for it isn't limited to the game itself. See that's the thing about sports, it’s an experience. That's why people go to the games, for the experience. The loud fans, the smell of fresh popcorn, and the rumble you feel in the arena when your team scores or makes a pass for the 40 yard line! It’s all apart of the sports experience!
This is an experience I was introduced to at a young age. My father, an avid tennis player and coach for the past 25 years initiated my love for sports early on. I remember watching tennis with him, not because I was fascinated with love-40, 15-all, or the speed of serves, volleys, or lobs, but because I loved watching the outfits Venus and Serena Williams wore on the court!! The colors of their beads and flamboyant, bold designs were fascinating to me! The entertainment factor has always been what’s drawn me to sports.
Take golf for example, I wasn't remotely interested in golf until Tiger Woods came along. I remember it so vividly; I was in elementary school when Tiger first emerged on the professional circuit. Eldrick Tiger Woods, what a name! From the red he wore for good luck, to the yellow tiger he used to cover his clubs, whatever he did, I was right there to see!
So ladies, you see it doesn't matter if you're not watching sports for the game, the point is, you're WATCHING! So do it in style, and don't be afraid to keep the pink! Whether you like pink nails, heels, or bags! Remember, you don't have to be a man or dress like one, to enjoy the things they do!
